Writing

We had to write what happened in a book that was about bees that we had read and put it into paragraphs. What happened at this school was amazing. How did these kids make up a business inside their school? And, what is really good about this, is that they are doing it for a really good cause, to help bees. The idea of having bees in this school grew to a much bigger project. The kids of Te Aro school had an idea to just try and get bees in their school garden. While they were working on this a man who had a job to do with bees was going to come in and talk to them about bees and change the whole operation. Martin is a bee keeper who came in and talked to the kids. He told them facts and asked them questions about what they wanted to do. Eventually the talk ended up in the students wanting to do a project on getting bees to come in and make honey. But what they didn’t know was how hard it might be. The students remembered Martin had mentioned ongoing costs. They were wondering how they were going to sort out the costs, because they couldn’t just rely on money from donations. So they figured out that the bees would have to pay for themselves. It was easy. They would just sell honey but now they needed someone who understood these things. They called in Lucia's dad who was an accountant to help them out with this. He explained Want’s and Needs and budgets to them. After that talk they were finally ready for their final stage of the project. Getting it done. Now that they had figured out all of the cost problems they had to figure out what they were going to buy. They would get a hive and they would also need to have varroa treatment strips for the bees to stay healthy. ANd in winter they had to buy sugar syrup to feed the bees. When they started to get honey they wanted new jars. But they couldn’t really afford that although it would look better. They waited to see what would happen next. Their plan was successful and worked out really well. The school has bees in the garden honey for their toast and honey to sell. Which is really amazing for them.

Writing

In class we learnt about proverbs, how to use them and how to recognise them. We had to write them down and see what some of them meant. A barking dog never bites- People who make big threats don't usually carry on with them. Easier said than done.- it's easier to say it than to do it Like father like son.- a son is like his father Little strokes fell great oaks Limited strength, when persistently applied, can accomplish great feats Look before you leap be careful and look before you do something Misery loves company be positive Where there's smoke there's fire- if you see smoke usually see fire You can’t judge a book by it’s cover- don’t judge someone when you meet them You can’t teach an old dog tricks- Old people are do not run around When there is cats the mice will play

Think And Search Why was Starr unhappy. Author And Me What was the main part of the story. On My Own How would you have felt if you knew that the slushies were brainwashing.
