War Without Guns
War without Guns
- Who are the main characters in this story?
Mr Sutton and Paoro
Briefly describe their personality.
Mr Sutton is a pakeha who is quite cunning to get land he is also quite greedy. Paoro is someone who always gets what they want and not need but he also cares about his tribe
- What does this sentence mean? Mr Sutton was very obliging about credit?
He looked like he cared what they were doing and was trying to look like he was caring but he was just being cunning.
- How are italics used to make this story easier to understand
To show that the things that were said in a different font were actually what the people said. It was also because it was copied and pasted from the newspaper.
- What was the theme or main message of this story?
That you need to not get what you want and to be fair. And there are lot’s of ways to solve a problem.
- If you had been one of the characters in the story (except Paoro or Mr Sutton) how might you have acted to help resolve the problem.?
If I was the sheriff I would have just told Mr Sutton that this is his choice on what he does and if they don’t move then well too bad. Because that would have saved all of the time and the old man almost dying.
- Do you think that all wars could be solved without guns? Justify your answer to this question.

Camp Assesment
Weka Point Camp Self Assessment Name:
Camp is over. Now it is time to reconsider the goals that you set and check to see if you achieved them.
After my camp experience at Weka Point, I know that I can now:
- Tie a proper knot.
- Pitch a small tent.
- Abseil, just learning how to do it and just get it done.
I achieved these goals: (Copy and paste from your list.)
- Keeping organised in our tent
- Keeping my bag tidy and helping my friends to do that as well.
NOW - explain how you achieved them.
In the mornings I just tidied my stuff up then told my friends to do that and I helped the with it as well.
I feel... About Weka Point now it
It was really fun doing all of the activities because the people were nice and most of the activities were organised. My favourite activity was the soft archery just because that was one of the new things that I could try.
I used GOTAR when I …
Wasn’t really scared of anything but abseiling just was a little bit of an adrenaline rush.
Some things that could be improved at camp are…
The activities were fun but they could just update them and make them a little more organised and new.
Because…
Most of the activities that I have done were there and it would just be really fun to try and do new things at camp.
The best thing about camp was…because…
The best thing about camp was the soft archery because it was a new thing to me and I had never done it before. It was also fun because it was quite competitive against my classmates.

Where I Am From Poem
I am from many sports balls
From dishing washing powder and fresh mown grass
I am from the green country house surrounded by farm
And strong with fresh gardens
I am from the gum and pine trees that provide birds and interesting insects to look and listen to
Whose arms are long and creak when the wind is strong
I am from my teddy monkey that comforted me when I was little and rugby boots that would get me pumped up for the season
From Ormond and Ioasa
I am from celebrating holidays with family and playing sport
And from the sayings, “ eat your carrots and you can see in the dark”
From going and hunting with grandparents and having farm sessions with them
I am from a non religious home but sporty and kind
I am from Sir John Ormond and Michael Ormond
From roasts and sapasui
From Sir john ormond becoming a Sir
And from going overseas to watch rugby that my dad used to play in
Falling out of my treehouse when I was four and breaking my collarbone is a strong memory
I am from those moments, sports, breaking bones and going overseas.

The Iain Sharp Poem
In class this week we were working on the Iain Sharp poem. We read it a couple of times and were finding out about how to write it and follow his methods. This is the original poem made by Iain Sharp.
Iain Sharp Poem
Iain Sharp is a fat parcel
of mixed groceries
tied with a clumsy knot.
Iain Sharp is a black kite
adrift on changeable winds.
Iain Sharp is a pile of scoria
tricking softly to the sea.
Whenever I peep in mirrors
Iain Sharp frowns back at me.
It’s terrifying.
Iain Sharp is a runaway tramcar.
Iain Sharp is a chunk of moon rock.
Iain Sharp is nine letters
wrenched from the Roman Alphabet.
Look there and there!
Bits of bright confetti
blow from chapel to chapel.
I chase them with outstretched hands. After some inspiration from Iain Sharp we decided to make our own poems. This is mine.
Tali is a humble and fast Ford Ranger with a big engine used to hard work
Tali is a tall tower filled from every corner with cheekiness and sportiness
Tali is a lucky but dirty hundred dollar bill that you would find on a sidewalk
Tali is a sweet dessert that has lots of things to it but can have a bitter after taste if
not made properly
Tali is a muddy and bloody shirt with the number thirteen on his back
Whenever I look into mirrors I see Tali standing tall and proud it makes me feel jealous
Tali is sharp shards of steel that whizzes along rugby fields and makes the opposition run away.
Thank you for reading my poem.
