Math

In maths we are doing a statistical investigation. Me and henry are doing if HNI students would want shorter assemblies. This our plan that we did before we made our survey.

Name/s: Tali Henry
Problem: Assembly are too long
Question: How might we stop this

Strategies for investigation
(what are you going to do? How are you going to tackle this?)
  • Make a survey
  • Get as many names as you can for shorter assemblies
  • Go to miss beaumont and give her reasons why we should have shorter assemblies
  • Ask questions that are mostly open.

Break it down!
Who will you need to talk to? What do you need to find out? What background information do you need?
We might need to talk to Miss Beaumont or the People who make the slides for the assemblies.
We could use a tally chart/send out a survey
Ask kids if they feel bored or tired when the assemblies go on.

How will you record your data?
(Tally? Electronic spreadsheet to collate?)
Spreadsheet.
Google Docs

Make a prediction
What do you think the solution or answer is?
Most kids will want shorter so it should be shorter assemblies
All the students will want longer assemblies unless you get to do something fun after assembly is done.

Your survey question
Open or closed question?
The reason behind it (how will this data help you in your investigation)
What kind of responses are you expecting from this question?
Why do you think that Assemblies should be shorter than they are.

If you could change the assemblies at our school how would you change them.

What Gender are you.

What is the most boring part of the assembly for you.

Do you think that the assemblies are a complete waste of time.

When the speakers are talking do you switch off from what they are talking about.

More reasons to have shorter assemblies

This will tell me ideas that the kids would want to have different subjects when assembly is going on

This will tell me if boys might want shorter assemblies but girls might want the assemblies to stay the same

This tells me if the kids are enjoying the assembly or just think it is boring.
I think from the students everyone will say they want shorter assemblies.

Just make them shorter

People talking about random things

What possible barriers might you face?
What might you need to do to counteract these barriers?
The teachers might not like the idea and try stop it.
Miss Beaumont might be offended by it and tell us off.
Kid’s might not respond to the survey so we will have to go and ask them front up
If they don’t make shorter assemblies the kid’s could go on a sort of strike.
